Russian Words

I wrote down the words I knew in Russian at the top of my head. I'm not sure if I got them all correctly, but it was a good, simple practice. :)

The one circled is 'babushka'. It's a well-known word even in English and it means Grandma. I was able to share my passion and interest of the Russian language with some of my nieces and nephews when I was babysitting them a few weeks ago. I read them a book and it mentioned this word a number of times, since she was one of the main characters. The little ones really liked the story and were laughing and engaged. Later, I decided to teach them some words in Russian, and the Alphabet. One of my nieces was really engaged and interested in it all. She was even taking notes as she copied down what I wrote, it was so cute! I think someday she could also get into languages. And she was able to write down some words based on what I taught her.

I love sharing these kinds of things with others, and especially children as they grasp it well and think it's fun. The youngest boy said one of the letters looked like a chair, and I never thought of that, and realized it kind of does. It's the 'd' letter in Russian. It was a fun way to spend the evening, as it was their last night here before they would go back home. To have some fun times and something simple, but also intricate like language learning!

Good Morning

Hello, Hallo, Privet, Marhaba, Bonjour, Ni Hao in some of the languages I am learning or have learned. It starts out with Good Morning, Dobrey Utro, Sabah Alkhayr, Zao An, as that's where all the hopes and possibilities start at a brand-new day.

It was the morning at the beach when my dear sister mentioned to me about this new idea of a new blog dedicated to language. It's been an ever-evolving passion and interest of mine that had delved into other ones too. These percolating ideas and interests will also be posted on here too. :) So, I hope you enjoy this documented journey that just happens to fall out from my mind into the page without a whole lot of organization, sorry, pojaluista, es tut mir leit, dui bu qui.

Sea and Salt blog is starting and I'm not sure where it will all lead, but I'm excited to start. I can envision looking out at the ocean and seeing all the possibilities. So, I start with a 'good morning' for fun (although its evening time right now as I write).

I had a little joke with one of the students I worked with, when he left the classroom for the day, he would say 'good night' to the teacher (it wasn't really nighttime), and I would say good morning' as a joke. I even taught him how to say good morning in Arabic. I realize more and more how much I involve little snap shots of language in my every day, so this blog will be a great reminder for me. :)
